So many nouns are going extinct due to proliferation of visual media allowing show/point over tell. The only name I know for half the things I refer to is “thingie”.
Architecture is a field especially full of thingies, as in “that pokey thingie on the top of that building”

Over time I have increasingly come to view language as a clunky interim solution to a broader problem better served by imagery and referential communication.

All technical jargon is thingies and doohickeys if you lack the specific knowledge. Definitely not extinct among those whose job is enhanced by being able to quickly differentiate a cupola from a steeple.
