There is something bizarre about “high-IQ” as an identity core like with Mensa. Like a trade union of capitalists or a commune of libertarians. Or that South Park joke about the anti-semitic sect of Judaism.
Shouldn’t you be winning Nobels, rather than performing identity?

do you think people who win Nobels don't perform identity?

Performing identity is not the same as seeking community. If you just wanted to hang out with other smart people, you’d likely pick a specific interest like a chess club or a board gaming community. It’s like tall people forming a tall people club instead of playing basketball

I wanted a 'smart community' and it took me a *long* time before I found it (lesswrong). I tried general 'smart' meetups, like philosophy or debate groups, and was extremely disappointed. It might be easier for people immersed in academia or research, though.

If you go to Mensa meetings you find out that in large part they’re umbrella gatherings for exactly this sort of thing, with a presort filter in place. Local groups have one general monthly meeting, usually, and umpteen SIG meetings.
