Fine then, my diff with you is probably that I think people are engaging with it just fine. Even if they get uppity with professors who know better as a result and don't always read a conflict right. ie they're drinking responsibly most of the time.
Knowing the "flaws of of a knowledge production system" is par for the course. Good academics know how to produce good work despite the flaws of the peer-review model. Bad ones produce tripe and game the publication-count klout/impact factor crap for funding.
