This IS really odd. When you work with modern tech companies, their entire financial mindset has changed due to SaaSy times (how they think of capex and opex, CAC/LTV). But we consumers still think of our personal finances like we're living in 1970.

We still think in terms of home ownership, retirement planning, a fuck-you money number etc. Outside of a couple of utility bills and a trickle of recurring revenue from a side project, most of us don't do SaaSy-client financial planning on either revenue or cost fronts.

For eg. you can choose between expensive monthly or pay-as-you-go plans and cheaper, but longer-commitment annual plans for all the services in your life. That's a kind of cost-flow budgeting.
