I have been obsessed lately with the hypothesis that consciousness is the luminiferous ether of time. As with the spatial version, it is an awkward, just-so theory. To eliminate it, we need a weird new assumption similar to ‘speed of light is constant for all observers’

i know this is a common trope of these conversations but can we ever really understand consciousness without the tool of psychedelics? they’re our closest analog to calculus enabling physics.

e.g. no one has any idea what the “waiting room” of the DMT experience is or why the mind can display/perceive such a complex mathematical structure that everyone who takes the drug sees.
