I’m skeptical of trope that autism spectrum people want clear rules. A few I’ve known are very free-form, improv thinkers. Wanting rules is I think a narrow symptom, in response to poor reading of social cues. Situation-specific feedback deficit driving behavior to feedforward.

that’s nonsense. Sometimes AS makes it hard to generalize or lateralize what is obvious to others. So you go “Ok fine, give me some clear rules to follow” but it’s a reluctant hack, not a strong desire for rules.

I also stress the sometimes. You can see really creative lateral thinking in the exact same person. It’s extraordinarily contextual and specific, which again is a marker of AS.
