I think the brain actually has 3 Kahnemannian decision systems, not 2. Sys 1: thin-slice, quick, subconscious, pre-rational real-time Sys 2: rational, slow, conscious, non-real-time Sys 3: slow-aging, post-rational, narrative, integrating online/offline, conscious/subconscious

Kahneman writes in his book “The world makes less sense than you think. The coherence comes mostly from the way your mind works.” implicitly saying Sys 2 takes care of coherence (‘narrative’). What evidence is there that there is something else in play (esp. neurologically)?

Says 3 is really Sys 1 reused on a different time scale of chronic rather than acute stress. It’s like cognitive cholesterol build up. Paleo mechanisms operating in modern environments. Spandrels turning into features.
