The one thing that's changed for me with recent seasons is that they went from pure cringey to cringey+funny. I liked the most recent season the best. The robot dog episode was hilarious dark humor.

I think how you react to apocalyptic stories depends on how well prepared you are for them which determines how real the scenario is for you. You're an island survivalist with guns. I'd probably be dead in the first 30s of an actual apocalypse. So it's funnier for me.
