Considered, self-critical, dispassionate, skeptical, open-ended thinking and argumentation are in short enough supply it's understandable that people want to advocate for them. If some parrot the phrase "critical thinking" as cover for their agenda it's no knock on the concept.

Yeah, I don’t buy this trope either. “Critical thinking” is the primary skill developed by English-majors, but you never hear them advocate that path. I suspect it’s just a semi-reliable way to dismiss opinions one doesn’t agree with.

The lag between a useful new concept getting attention to packaged courses to widespread misuse to totally meaningless is reducing. Didn't know that even old ones like critical thinking are rapidly falling into the black hole.
