What’s a good read on Japanese culture in the last 40 years (ie post-miracle era, defined by aging, recession, hikikomiri, robots, gaming etc)?
Don’t want to get into japanophilia subculture, just a book with an overview. Kinda like ‘The Birth of Korean Cool’ level book.

I've read a few really good blogposts. One is the waitbutwhy post. Another is something like "how not to write about japan"

I really can’t recommend the Spike Japan blog enough, especially on marginal areas of Japan in the post-bubble era
