There’s a prevalent Gnostic cliché in sci-fi as well. The Matrix, Tron, Inception, Dark City etc. There’s a simulation, a demiurge controlling it, and a quest to wake up from it. It has a rebellious patina, but it’s also deeply nihilistic.
