I think my thinking style is anti-Straussian. I approach famous thinkers by making up minimum-viable caricatures to put on my own maps.
And i do so using recent secondary sources, rather than exploring their mind palaces with reverentially from inside, via original sources.

My bias is: more history+ordinary minds beats less history+ extraordinary minds.
I’m agnostic on “greatness” opinions (I don’t find it useful to form them) but recent glosses on 100+ year old thoughts tend to benefit hugely from accumulated historically situated scrutiny
