This idea of an empowering epistemology is fertile. What other examples besides gun and wellness culture? I'm bad at this mindset. I don't even do much prep for realistic threats in my environment (earthquake prep is probably wise in Seattle)
I don't think that's an empowering epistemology in terms of the article I tweeted. It doesn't come from a sense of an empowerment deficit (crime and toxins all around that you're helpless against)

It's an indeterminate thing for most people though, not focused on a specific environmental condition/cause. I think it turns into this sort of thing once it finds a focus. And it has to be physical to ride the collective security of community.
