The US has actually FEWER hospital beds and physicians than most other developed countries. But it has 10 administrators for every doctor. You are likely paying not for healthcare itself but for healthcare administration.

Yeah, I know those factoids (been doing a few healthcare gigs lately). But still manage to be astounded by how they add up to such an exceptionally different story.

The article you linked brings a few non explanations (to many treatments and diagnoses, when they also write that there are fewer physician visits and shorter hospital stays) and does not really track administration issue and pharma costs.
