Yeah I think Christianity, especially Catholicism, is fundamentally progressive. In many parts of the world it’s gotten along with actual communism like PB&J. Actually seems to take some clever contortions in Protestant denominations to make it conservatism-friendly.

Good HR policy should be like that. Allow for the chance that you've hired a dud or active problem, but leave open the possibility you got it right, and have a superstar you shouldn't shackle with Kryptonite. (Mostly involves firmly differentiating between the cases, though.)

A reminder that “the end justifies the means” relies on uncertain outcomes, while the direct impact is clear. Eg, cutting medical care for poor to “incentivize” them to get jobs. (Yes, that popular claim is more than a bit disingenuous) Not the Golden Rule
