In simple logic you can always prove/disprove well formed propositions In more complex logic and math, you can’t always In physics you can disprove but not prove In social science you can vaguely pile up proof ‘beyond reasonable doubt’ where ‘reasonable’ is the local religion

It appears that the bet of our age is that social science can be broken down into simple logical propositions which imho is the grandest of all fallacies.

I like the local religion framing. In many ways our water data wars are an old civil engineering versus new economist guard war over which methodologies will define the future of water management.
