This is the proverbial high school jock who failed to adapt from young adult social apex...though in Indian context, I gather it's a jock level performance in national exams and standardized testing that didn't get them anywhere beyond some middle managerial position in an MNC.
Ever run into an old schoolmate who was talented in some way as a teenager but who hasn’t improved since, but still keeps performing at 13-year-old level? And now it’s just embarrassing and nobody tells them? Otoh you do sometimes meet ones who kept improving and that’s great
