Realized why I dislike manifestos.
They are the normative and unfunny cousin of amirite humor.
People who agree with your solution already will nod enthusiastically.
People who disagree with your solution will deny the problem if they think it’s getting too much nodding.

Explicit statements of belief corrode the power of the stated belief.

The artistic contexts in which I’ve most often encountered them feel different in the sense that everyone usually recognizes on some level that the manifesto doesn’t necessarily have to be “right.”

My difficulty with Manifestos is that they cannot change their mind. They are feed-forward thinking systems.
