How much of this do you attribute to the current POTUS / admin's anti-immig policies & how much to a real long-term trend. I suspect, the momentum from the last several decades will be sufficient to carry it past, what I believe is a temporary dip...

Definitely a real long-term trend. Minimum 25 year phase of the cycle now I think. Because it’s not just happening to the US.

But OTOH, in my experience over the last few decades. the US has got more open & accepting of immigrants & other cultures. Even vegetarianism - an alien concept when I got here. Another metric is LGBT and even gay marriage acceptance - unthinkable just 20 yrs back.
