Thought of a phrase: alt confidence. The generally higher sense of self certainty that comes with adopting fringe views. I think it’s a selection effect. People who can’t tolerate high uncertainty centrifuge farther out to edge.

What you call "not wanting to be a minority" — nativism, broadly — is a common feature of far-right (you're free to substitute less offensive adjectives if needed) worldviews/platforms across the world. India has a lot of it, as does much of Europe today.

Isn't venkatesh part of the rationalist community? I doubt he believes demographic replacement has no consequence, he just doesn't like the rhetoric. Just ask
