I've been forcing myself to use the words 'intellectual' and 'intellectualism' as simple, non-pejorative descriptions of a sincere disposition towards idea-work.
The strength of anti-intellectualism today is evident from the fact that this feels like un-PC heresy.

I remember seeing an ad for a magazine in India – something like The Economist, I think – describing itself as "your intellectual indulgence" or something to that effect. I remember thinking that it's a uniquely Indian thing to be able to say that with a straight face
