In factory farming, 2 practices enable high density crowded ops:
Chickens are debeaked to prevent pecking
Pig tails are docked, so they develop sensitivity/avoidance around painful stump if other pigs bite
Yeah, ugh, I know
But what human social norms do these remind you of?

No talks of religion or politics around dinner table

Kinda literal, but we can’t carry guns or even box-cutters in an airplane (or sports stadium) which is arguably the most dense of communal spaces.

Hmm. Humans do have some imagination, so wr don't quite need individualized physical mutilation - we use institutionalized violence. Ie the chickens that peck get thrown into chicken jail and made an example of, and everyone learns to psychologically debeak themselves

a) It's callous to compare speech norms to actual cruelty of this sort & intensity.
b) Institutionalized violence against children (including child genital mutilation, school and much of parenting) should come to mind.

...a US penalty system that tacitly condones & relies on physical violation.
...an education system that mystifies one's own sexual biology and uses those misconceptions as a tool of manipulation.
...an economic system that steals just enough so victims don't all rebel at once.
