This is confusing. What do the pilots on international flights have that those making 1/10th on regional flights lack? Are those thousands of hours of flight time actually useful if seniority arbitrarily resets when a pilot changes airlines?

Probably underrated is that wages are low for those not protected by union seniority in part because flying & traveling places appears fun to significant groups of people. Fun jobs are often crappy jobs. See wannabe actors, or game development vs rest of programming industry.
