One reason I don’t share subculturalist disdain for “normies” is that though they may be more aware of ongoing change in parts of zeitgeist, normies are generally adapting better to it overall
In terms of adaptive success, I suspect edgy subcultures are no better than luddites

This reminds me of how “emo” is essentially the same as it was back when I was in high school. Everyone still wears black and rainbow, band tees, skulls, and listens to post-hardcore. Many examples of this: juggalos, metalheads, certain religious groups.
