Watched a couple of Season 29 episodes of The Simpsons out of morbid curiosity Unreal living dead feel to it that’s not so much bad/out of touch as a sort of creepy neverland. It’s like psychological time stopped in 2000 in Springfield even though material time continued

Great analysis of the downfall here. Funnily enough, he refers to contemporary Simpsons as “Zombie Simpsons”. https://deadhomersociety.com/zombiesimpsons/

I’ve come to understand The Simpsons as primarily a show about the 90’s. The culture, societal norms, and overall attitude. It’s a hokey phrase, but Simpsons has no place in a “post-9/11 world”.

If you've ever worked in a nursing home or assisted living where the residents are still cognitively sound, one thing you'll notice is that people's fashion sense freezes at whatever was cool whenever they turned 50. It's kinda like that.

i watched some episodes from the mid-2000s recently, there were some pretty fascinating reminders of Bush-era American liberal psychology
