Help me out here: is there any legit use for cryptocurrency tumblers (e.g. other than avoiding law enforcement)? @vgr @Aelkushttps://twitter.com/deviantglobal/status/957966598022709248 …

Well, it makes opaque “how much you have” and “what transactions you’ve been a party to” - laundering but also business competition, medical stuff, hiding my crypto riches from my siblings etc

Medical stuff, ok maybe. But you have to be pretty darn sick to need to anonymize $500m worth of medical bills! The rest of those examples ain’t legit in my normative book.

If you assume your normal/deviant nation-states/non-state-actors ontology, yeah, evading law enforcement is the only use case. If you think Westphalian order is already toast, this is a new normal and it is traceability that has to be defended/explained

Fair enough. Note that I follow
@brooks_rosa in believing the right ontology is to realize we already live in a world state, with the unfortunate proviso that said world state is a failed state.1 reply 0 retweets 2 likes
I think future models of rights etc will be much closer to today's models of visa-based temporary rights plus something like 'roaming' spectrum use not bluntly territorial.
