Or sometimes existing psychiatric conditions like anxiety and depression are triggered or exacerbated by external stimuli, such as work stress or dehydration. Removing the stimuli cannot guarantee relief of symptoms, though there are obviously great benefits to regular self-care.

Seconded. I started taking 100mg of 5HTP every night (serotonin precursor) and my intermittent depression has vanished ever since. I still have insomnia (the original reason I started taking it), but the positive effect on my mood was a very pleasant surprise
