Bitcoin/blockchain is three things: 1. Speculative investment. (This is probably a bubble.) 2. A new form of currency. (It does not need to be a successful investment for this.) 3. The future of trust. (Will bring the cost of trust to ~zero and massively transform industries.)

Or 0.2% of the world's energy consumption, aka below the noise floor. There are far bigger and more wasteful targets out there that provide much less of an utility.
