I'm *really* tempted to drop $1000 on the Mathworks deep learning toolbox. Anyone tried it? mathworks.com/products/neura I know I'm a dinosaur for still using Matlab as my main playpen, but I never seem to get far learning any free stack like Python. Just too messy/grownup for me.

It's a PAID programming language. Contemplate this phrase for a moment. If that does not sound like "stone money" or "geocentric model" to you, then i don't know how to explain it.

I think of it as paying for the hermetically sealed IDE really. One could argue that the language itself has a free alt (octave) but the support and evolution is shaky enough that you can’t treat it as a forget-the-outside-world sandbox.

Hm, you mean money-effort trade-offs? You effectively spend a floor-load of money in order to avoid spending the effort needed to learn better tools (regular programming).
