Do any last-mile smart metering technologies exist that actually provide a live readout of wattage being used? So you can concretely see the effect of (say) turning off a couple of lights and a tv?

You can buy plug-in passthrough meters to use indoors at the outlet, not sure about a whole-home outdoor unit.

I've only ever used kill-a-watt type plugin meters, but apparently CURB exists as a central breaker panel install

At the single-circuit level ("last 10 feet"), devices exist, e.g. p3international.com/products/p4400 (not an endorsement), I presume larger-scale and recording versions exist, but have no first-hand knowledge of them.

I’ve been monitoring our usage for 2 years with this. Polls every 30-seconds, though you can adjust for more granularity. You’d need a hub that supports Z-wave like SmartThings. amazon.com/dp/B00DIBSKFU/
