No worries. "Unwillingness to identify with a subculture" is an odd statement to me. Looking back at my history, I spent a lot of time and energy trying to participate in almost any subculture that would take me in, but I'd inevitably encounter friction points few others did

My parents were generally quite indifferent to my identity, I don't think they made much of an attempt to either suppress or nourish it. they kinda left me alone to do my own thing. If I'd to guess, I think the absence of a strong childhood/boyhood ingroup is a better explanation

but even then, I fuckin' tried, man.😂 I dove into each group that seemed receptive to me. I was a music scene kid, immersed myself in it, tried to do it justice. Put in more effort than most people do. Still didn't work out. Same for local politics, writing, everything.

Maybe was somewhat tempted in sense that there were certain groups of people who'd invite me to sit at their lunch tables in high school, but I was never motivated to put in the effort to actually listen to their music or play their video games when I wasn't naturally interested.
