Jealous of people who inhabit subcultures more deeply than I do (I mostly don’t) where it ostensibly implies they’ve found a setting where activities of other people somehow coincide with their own interests. (Either that or they’re just molding themselves to fit the subculture.)

No worries. "Unwillingness to identify with a subculture" is an odd statement to me. Looking back at my history, I spent a lot of time and energy trying to participate in almost any subculture that would take me in, but I'd inevitably encounter friction points few others did

For me personally, yes. In the past I've self-sabotaged my own attempts to identify with subcultures out of paranoia. Probably stemming from lack of group acceptance during adolescence. I still dislike identifying as "ingroup" to any particular subculture, but I'm coming around.
