Why misleading. Just provides calibration on the impedance mismatch between variability handling technologies and scale of variability. Suggests pumped hydro is not enough to smooth out renewables variability.
All pumped storage in US that I am aware of was designed to work with fossil or nuclear, much more predictable loads and generating profiles.
