You don't really need an "alt theory" when there's no data to explain do you?

That's a bad heuristic. General relativity was a example of a theory that showed where to look for data. Here there is suggestive evidence in the form of social dominance displays etc. It's natural behavior and must be good for something.

I think this too. It definitely works for some class of athletes, bodybuilders, etc. I'm guessing it doesn't work for doubtful skeptics. It's probably not the pose itself that works magic, but priming your own mind with positive associations, memories, etc

Related: "imagine the audience naked" is an old public-speaking trick (aimed at generating feelings of contempt/ridicule, and therefore feeling higher status, not sexual)

Someone ran tests on lobsters. Every time a lobster loses a fight it shrinks it's stance, then is more likely to lose again. If you inject serotonin, even losers stand tall and more likely to win. Jordan Peterson talks about it.

Yeah the serotonin angle has been known for a while. That just seems like top of the iceberg though.

Lots of work showing felt power influences judgments and behaviour. Power posing manipulation doesn't robustly elicit felt power. But that doesn't mean that there isn't a physical side to feeling powerful.

My hunch is that it is context dependent, and not a one size fits all thing.

Meditation works but priming seemingly doesn't, so what is the difference? Nobel for anyone who proves it first, maybe.
-
What if power poses work as a meditation form but not as a priming exercise?
