Best I can figure, something is art if the person who made it intended to create art. Nobody else's opinion matters.

Nah, that's in a sense a bit of a cowardly definition. While there is subjectivity, interesting definitions allow for external failures.

@scottmccloud explores a compelling definition of art in Understanding Comics and Reinventing Comics - "Any activity which does not have the primary purpose of survival or reproduction" - to me judging as art/not-art is a fool's game, judging good art/bad art is pure subjectivity -
It's only a fool's game if you want it to be. I find it very interesting and critical to improving what I do.

At a James Turrell exhibit I entered a room that was playing a video of Turrell talking about his work. It freaked me out to hear him put into words what he was going for, since he was describing exactly the effect it had had on me, which I had only partly verbalized to myself.
