How much of human free-loading and bullshit cycling is really crisis surge capacity in disguise? We really have no way of knowing now that conscription and wartime production modes are antiquated patterns of labor deployment.

not sure if related, but I finally made my peace with the bullshitty nature of conscription in NS when somebody put it to me that it was really more of "idling the engine" for the overall system than to actually prepare 18yo boys for actual war

It does. It's one of those things where, disgruntled boy-soldiers think "this isn't preparing me for real combat", but if war is coming in a year, it's way easier to scale up + "serious-ify" this existing process than to try to make one from scratch in panic state

Yup. Honestly all of that stuff is really easy, even fun. They don't push us too hard because they worry about injuries or worse. The hard part for those who struggle is the psychological bit from change in lifestyle, environment
