My own thinking is proceeding on the basis of a distinction between "equity" links and "debt" links between people on a social graph.

1/ Testable and partially tested. Trying to acquire network capital is often a waste because networks are too complex to design.

3/ Networking backfires because people change if they focus on organic/mechanical solidarity & the characteristics they focus on.
