I don't that will work. It's not a UX problem, more a machine learning problem to use interest graph to modulate social graph stream.

I don't see how machine learning would help here. These things can't be automated -- human judgment (from poster and recipient) is required.

Just needs time to pick up on the pattern that (for example) I like somebody's tweets about marine biology but not about economics.

BTW, have you checked out Toutiao? If it's as good as reports indicate, I'd adjust my belief that we can "machine learning our way out of the problem" positively.
