"Empower" is such a disempowering word. Easily my least favorite newspeak word.

So true. If it is my role to empower, I automatically disempower the other.

It's used so inconsistently to describe psychologized and/or material factors preventing disempowered ppl from doing the thing. V unhelpful

I don't even know what it means, especially when applied to groups. Like, is there a discrete measure of confidence that is being increased?

How about "agency"? I like agency. Interpreting "empower" as "give agency" makes plenty of stuff make much more sense.
My favorite professor says "explode" for that. "Let's explode this issue." "But first, explode that word."
