i think all of part 2 could have been avoided if you'd only said "suffering" rather than "pain" in the beginning.

I don't think it's possible to separate the two easily except on a desert island. It's like needs vs wants. Another distinction I don't make

Quite possibly, but gut check suggests that it is unlikely the imbalance goes that way... it would be non-adaptive/evolved out if majority
