idli, vada, upuma, poha, poori-sabzi...all very carby unfortunately. Eggs/toast are popular too, but protein tends to be later meals

they are breakfast by default, snack by exception :), yes protein, but with high carb-load (<20% protein in best case)

to get 14g protein is ~2 eggs but would be ~6-8 idlis which is a biggie dinner sized portion, not regular breakfast

yup, in Japan I could eat anything but Japanese breakfast, felt like a moral failing but I couldn't help it

In France I ate my UK breakfast, but was easy. Hypothesis: it's the meal people want to keep the same each day.
