Urbanists: does anything ever come out of sister/twin cities type relationships? Eg. Seattle is 'twin city' to Mombasa. Wtf does that mean?

When I was a kid a painting I made was hung in sister city Russian gallery as we did the same. They did the exchange for a while.

Ha Ha! I think so because anytime people are making a conscientious effort to extend a laurel to a foreign land it pays dividends.

as far as I know, nothing. There is *lots* of cross-city pollination, but sister cities have nothing to do with it

when I was in 9th grade, I got to go on a city-sponsored trip to our sister city in Japan. I also hosted two Japanese students later

ha! I think they're just a relic from when int'l communication was harder
Salem, Oregon had regular cross cultural events with Kawagoe, Japan. It was more of a thing pre-internet.
