What does it take to add simple, static game mechanics to modeled 3D environments? Like say a pop-quiz question at each feature you pass by?

...iirc second life had a simple scripting for such behaviors. What's the equivalent for generic VR? Do you have to use full game dev stack?

unity does javascript and oculus. we did a demo for a hardware thing in about a week with very little prior clue.
