We tend not to consciously perceive parts of reality where we lack all agency. We give ourselves permission to see only where we can act.
I mean it's not obviously biologically necessary in an evolutionary sense in any way I can see

Stress can kill you; benefit is awareness of danger. Stress without possible action is maladaptive.

need not be maladaptive... eg ability to see stars... can be side effect of adaptive feature (vision in this case)
