Is iMovie any good? Better alts for simple things like adding a title/credits image before after an already optimized video?

Maybe it's just that I'm a n00b, but I found iMovie interface unintuitive and I had an easier time with Windows movie maker in my PC days

...Exporting to file (1 hr), it gives no indication of progress, takes forever, heats my MacBook Pro. Fails YouTube upload when direct works

It used to be the best: intuitive, easy, 'just worked'. they gutted/redesigned it in '08 and it's never been the same

I use Premiere. If it weren't for Windows' crappy *nix tools support I'd bail. Apple hasn't cared about Mac in a while and it shows.

switch to Linux, it would be even worse, but at least you would expect it.

what types of problems you running into? Final cut is similar more powerful. Screenflow is good for screencasts, lightweight...
you should try iMovie on the iphone. It's much better than desktop version and has what you need.

if you’ll be doing lots of video fcpx is great…bit steeper learning curve & cost but worth it. For quick / free iMovie alt tho idk!
