AFAICT by my inventory, only 2 kinds of stories allow you to properly tackle infinite-game themes: space sci-fi and murder mysteries.

I’m not sure if you’ve lost me or are just wrong. Most mysteries epitomize finite game.

procedurals are infinite in that the goal is to spawn more instances of the procedural but in that case addiction is an infinite game.

The detective tends to be a caricature by design usually. An elemental archetype (grit, reason, intuition etc)

Haven’t thought this through entirely but, Wallander taken as a whole seems like an infinite game mystery under my definition.

I go by Carse test of "goal is to continue game". Procedurals that don't develop victim or murderer character are finite IMO.
