The Olympics are like landfills. No economically healthy city with reasonable citizen power seems to want them. Only politicians do.

... secondary school instead of the olympics. Worked out at (IIRC) something like £5,000 a year each to spend on sport, in perpetuity.

actually my recollection must be off… £20bn / 3000 schools = £6.6m each, or at 5% £300k per school per year. Now that’s wow!
