When people say "emergence" they either believe in magic, or really mean "these complicated equations produce simpler-than-chaos patterns"

Or "higher level of abstraction". Chemistry is the emergent properties of physics, biology the emergent properties of chem/phys, etc.

Doesn't mean "I don't understand nor do I want to", but rather "99% of the time, lower-level principles not needed to explain this".

And also, very important, "emergence" means "not magic woo"! As in "the human psyche is just another emergent property of physics".
