Pattern langs/C. Alexander are big. swears by it, did session on it in the first refactor camp.
Pattern languages are a codified kind of analysis that aren't quite the same as ad hoc pattern thinking though.

I know enough about them to know I want to steer around them intellectually. They seem a bit addictive :)
Well both. Think of it as creative mimicry or improv, which combines analysis/synthesis in a flow

It actually reminded me strongly of raga improv in particular. A pattern *is* a raga of sorts.
Only music I understand in sufficient depth to write about is Indian. Too narrow for a global blog
