Just had a shocking realization: there's no word for "party" (as in fun gathering) in Hindi. Explains so much. Urdu "jashn" comes closest.

No, that's more like a formal commemorative event. Also not in common use anyway.

that's somewhat closer, but I think only applies to larger parties. And not as used in low-Urdu-influence areas
